Lost Senses

John Kitto found consolation in reading any books that came his way and was encouraged to write articles for local newspapers and continue to educate himself. During his short life he travelled to Europe and beyond, always keeping a journal of his travels. Shortly after returning to England he married, and in due course started a family, which increased to ten children.

Kitto wrote up his travel journals for a series of articles in the Penny Magazine and other writing projects followed. He eventually wrote a total of twenty-three books, including Lost Senses, which was considered to be his best work and virtually an autobiography.
